About Us
Slow Living with Meta
Our brand ethos is based on Slow Living.
By this, we don't mean doing things slowly, but being intentional with our thoughts and actions in order to find calm space in this busy modern-day world we live in, in order to take time out for ourselves for us to be the best version of ourselves.
Meta's ethos of Slow Living encompasses the core values of Self-Care, Mindfulness, and Sustainability.
We offer a range of products that have been created with purpose; products that we ourselves use in our home, every day. We hope our products act as reminders for you to be more present and kinder to yourself, while also thinking of our precious and finite whenua (environment).
• Self-Care •
It is more important than ever that we make time for ourselves - not just for ourselves but for everyone and everything around us too.
Our handmade products are created with the purpose or prioritising you, the user. They should act as gentle daily reminders to look after yourself and to take things lightly and slowly.
For example, have a moment to yourself and re-energise or wind down with a cup of our delicious, NZ-grown and custom blended teas. While sipping, pick up an old hobby and do something that brings you joy. While wrapped up in our hand-knitted Cosy Cardigan, read a book or take a walk in nature or a quiet street. At home, wrap our heated wheat bag around your neck to ease those every day neck strains from work. Create moments where you allow yourself to slow down and make space to process everything that happens in your busy life.
Acknowledge your own thoughts and feelings as we don’t get to do much of this when we are constantly surrounded by external stimuli - so think of yourself and do it for you.
We believe that we should take care of our body and mind in order to be healthy, productive, and ultimately good people.
• Mindfulness •
Slow Living allows you to be present and aware of your own thoughts and feelings without judgement. When we take the time to turn inwards, we realise how our thoughts and actions impact us and those around us.
At Meta, we are mindful and deliberate with our crafts - every step along the way we are conscious of our actions and how it impacts everyone and everything around us. We try our very best to always positively impact, by being mindful and intentional of why we do the things we do.
• Sustainability •
By taking care of ourselves it also gives us the ability to think of the long term sustainability of the environment.
We prioritise sustainability and reduce our environmental impact via our material selection processes, circular economy approach with our crafts, and we also provide a product after-life program.
For material selection, we prioritise natural fibres and use dead-stock fabrics over synthetic fibres. Hemp is our primary fabric choice - it is very sustainable from the get-go. Compared to cotton, it uses significantly less water, no chemicals and pesticides during the growing stage and there are many more great properties to it. We use cotton threads for all our products and this ensures everything can break down naturally at the end of its life cycle, ensuring a full circular economy.
To create an in-house circular economy, we find ways to repurpose offcuts or scraps. We usually use our fabric scraps to turn them into our label tags or accumulate them for larger projects. We home compost pieces which are too small and minute to be used.
We encourage our customers to think beyond the afterlife of their loved items, instead of replacing the damaged item we offer a product After-Life Program. We do our part in repairing it or you can choose to donate it back to us and we will salvage whatever we can for our future Upcycling projects.
All our packaging is minimal and comprises of compostable or recyclable materials.
